THE EATWELL GUIDE

The Eatwell Guide is a simple, visual tool that shows what a balanced plate looks like, helping you make nutritious choices for every meal. Divided into five essential food groups, it illustrates the right proportions for each, creating a plate that fuels your body and supports overall health.

What’s on a Balanced Plate?

Fruit and Vegetables

Packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, fruits and vegetables are at the core of any balanced meal. Aim for a variety of colours and types to keep things interesting and ensure a broad range of nutrients.

Starchy Foods

Whole grains like bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes provide energy and fiber. Choosing wholegrain options when possible supports digestion and helps keep you fuller longer.

Protein Foods

Protein-rich foods, like lean meats, fish, eggs, beans, and nuts, help build and repair tissues. Including a variety of proteins across your meals supports muscles and overall body function.

Dairy and Dairy Alternatives

This group includes milk, yogurt, and cheese, providing calcium and protein. Opt for lower-fat or non-dairy alternatives when available to keep saturated fat levels in check.

Oils and Spreads

These are essential but should be used sparingly. Choose unsaturated options like olive oil, which offer beneficial fats without the cholesterol impact of saturated fats.
